For My Father
There was naught to blame,
There was little to say,
And we miss you so much,
Since you were taken away.
Taken away by everyone’s foe,
That no man can escape,
And each child comes to know.
These children you’ve left,
Mine, my sister’s and brothers’,
Now never may know you,
Nor will any others.
We know what they meant,
In your heart and your mind,
Little more precious,
In this world did you find.
We’ll guide them and shape them,
As you’d want us to do,
In the way that is holy, humble, and true.
So one day not far from now,
When Jah returns you to being,
You’ll hold in your arms,
Babes you’ve missed out in seeing.
By then they may be grown,
And have babes of their own,
But I doubt in the least,
Less beloved will they be,
I only hope they all know,
How dear you were and still are,
To your children, your family, and me.

NOTE: In the picture attached there are several of his grandchildren missing, born since his passing or otherwise unphotographed as a group. The photograph here was taken at a gathering after my father's memorial service.
